'Black Beauty®' Elderberry
A ColorChoice® Plant Introduction

Black Beauty Elderberry image courtesy of Spring Meadow Nursery
Black Beauty® Elderberry
(Sambuscus nigra 'Gerda') has intense purple-black foliage that provides season long interest and color. The leaf color does not fade in summer, but actually gets darker.

Loads of unique 10" lemon scented, rich pink flowers cover the plant in late June and early July.

Dark purple berries attract songbirds in late summer.

Use as a shrub in a mixed border or cut it back each year. Black Beauty reaches a height of 6 to 10 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Grow in sun for the best color.

ColorChoice plants are selected for their superior characteristics against existing varieties in side by side evaluations. It must be an improvement over current selections, exhibit superior disease and pest resistance, provide multiple seasons of ornamental interest and serve a new or unique function in the landscape.
