Crabapples:
Trees for all Seasons
To see
a crabapple blooming in the spring is an unforgettable sight. Flowering
crabapples offer a show in every season, with spectacular spring bloom,
pleasing summer foliage, bright fruit in the fall, and attractive bark
in the winter.
Two outstanding varieties featured this spring at Allisonville Nursery
are Prairifire and Snowdrift.
Prairifire produces a profusion of pinkish-red flowers. New leaves emerge
purple and turn reddish-green as they mature. In the fall the foliage
turns an orange-red, and the maroon 1/2" fruits persist well into
winter.
Snowdrift crabapple provides masses of red flower buds that open to
single white blooms. Flowers are followed by 3/8" orange-red fruit
from late summer into winter. Both Prairifire and Snowdrift reach a
height and width of 15 to 20 ft. making them ideal accents for the landscape.
