Our Featured Tree this month is the Forest Pansy Redbud
Starting in early Spring, Forest Pansy Redbud delights with clusters of tiny, rose-purple, pea-like flowers blooming profusely on the branches and mature trunks for 2-3 weeks. (Flowers tend to be darker and more purplish than other species.) Next, heart-shaped leaves unfurl as a bright reddish-purple and gradually mature to a more muted purple. Autumn foliage is a bouquet of reds, purples, oranges, and yellows.
A true harbinger of Spring, Forest Pansy Redbud is an excellent small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas.
